Opportunities From the Universe

GM. This is Harry. Bringing you some heavy, mind-opening tactics to 10x your week. Without any substances.

Here’s what I’ve got for you today:

How to stand in the way of opportunitiesA great bookThe act of being patient and thinking

Thursday afternoon,

the week before last, I sat on a comfortable armchair in my mentor’s dimly lit office, with my notebook open to a blank page, waiting for him to say something.

What he was about to share would shape my thinking profoundly. So much so, that it opened a whole host of opportunities in a few short days.

I had shared my dilemma. I’m about to leave Sydney soon, but there’s so much opportunity popping up here. It’s making me think twice about leaving.

He shared two things.

First –

it’s not just your decision, so ask your wife before making any moves.

Good point.

Second –

read this book: The Surrender Experiment. It might help you find the direction you’re looking for.

So, on the way home, I downloaded the book and started reading it on the train. I was instantly deep into the story, the ideas, and the narrative the writer was taking me down.

It had an impact on me immediately.

But I don’t recommend you read the book. Not yet.

Read it when you’re facing tough decisions and you’re truly unsure of what to do.

What’s a tough decision?

Something that you know is going to change your life.

This book is about the universe.

It spoke to me about the little voice inside my head that doesn’t stop. It’s always telling me about my preferences, making excuses when things get hard, passing judgements on people and it’s very LOUD in my head. You probably have one of these voices too. Even the Taylor Swift hype can’t quieten this voice.

But behind this voice is an AWARENESS. A presence that’s watching the world and listening, as if it’s on a balcony. It doesn’t talk to you. It’s just there, sitting quiet. It doesn’t have a voice. Let’s call this the universe.

Understanding these two things came in very handy the next day.

Before I started work, I met a friend for coffee. We chatted for almost 2 hours, excited about possibilities that we could work on together. I was presented with an opportunity I wasn’t expecting.

But it was a big decision. It required sacrifices, time, and the support of my partner.

So with my new-found knowledge from the book and my mentor, I sat down and thought about this for 2 days.

2 DAYS!!!

The voice in my head kept changing it’s mind. Sometimes it was happy to commit, other times it wasn’t so sure. Sometimes it was against it completely. So I knew that I couldn’t listen to it. It was loud and overbearing, so I needed time to listen to the universe..

And the universe was clear – let’s do this.

That night, after two days, I spent over 3 hours workshopping how things would play out and what the opportunity was. Again, there were more decisions to be made.

So I did what I had done before – I ignored my inner voice, and listened to the awareness.

It took me 3 days.

Three. Whole. Days.

I decided to go ahead.

After that, a series of events unfolded that led me back to the room with my mentor. He was surprised I wanted to see him again – he expected to see me after I returned from Spain. But I explained to him that the universe brought me back – his eyes lit up and he stopped speaking. He waited for me to explain.

And I explained. I started sharing the opportunity and the rationale. I was mid-way through my second sentence when he interrupted and challenged me. I was surprised. But we got back on track and again he interjected and challenged me. Again, I was surprised but answered his question and kept going.

I started getting a little nervous. And I think he noticed.

What happened next was amazing.

This time we were sitting in a big meeting room, not the standard room with armchairs. He stood up, turned around to the whiteboard and started working through the problem with me. I learned so much in that short 30 minutes. I wish I recorded it so I could replay it.

In the end, he even offered me ANOTHER choice. And it was enticing.

But I thanked him for his time, and I took that choice away to start thinking again. I wanted to let my awareness tell me what the right way would be. And 4 days later, I’m still thinking. I haven’t decided yet.

So, without ‘doing anything’ - in the last 10 days, I’ve had two opportunities to make over $10m+ (over time), and another opportunity to make $0.5m in the short term. All of them require sacrifices. All of them require hard work. All of them require a good chunk of time.

Had I listened to my LOUD inner voice, none of these things would have come up. None of these things would be on the table and I wouldn’t be sharing this with you now.

So here’s what I want you to take away from this. Your inner dialogue is temperamental, unreliable, and emotional. It’s a child locked in an adult’s body and it had mood swings, sugar highs, and throws tantrums. Don’t make decisions using this voice.

Instead, listen to the awareness behind it.

Here’s how I have been doing it:

1. Journaling.

After every one of the meetings I talked about, I journaled on my experience and what I understood. Sometimes, for hours. Putting thoughts on a page somehow makes things clearer than how you see them in your mind. And when you write for a while, the flow takes over – and I think that’s directly related to the awareness. The inner voice fades away. The universe takes over.

2. Reducing the inflow / consumption.

No social media. Simple as that. No binging Netflix and no deep dives into things that would take over your mind with dopamine hits.

3. Meditation.

I’m not good at this yet. But there is an app I can share that has been useful. It’s called the Waking Up app. It’s pretty solid.

Now to link it all back – you’re going to have experiences. You’re going to learn a lot through them. And they will allow you to take action and make decisions to shape your life. But before you make the decisions – dive deeper. Dive into the awareness and listen to the soft voice that’s looking out for you.

“You don’t learn from your experiences, you learn from reflecting on your experiences”

Have a great week.

Harry

P.S. If this was useful - forward it to a friend.
