GM. This is Harry. Welcome to another episode of EXECUTE 🤌🏻, the newsletter that's like a Nerf gun battle – fast, fun, and action-packed.

Here’s what I’ve got for you today:

A reason to start being unreasonable.A quote. Because everyone likes quotes.A question for you to think about.

A REASON TO BE UNREASONABLE

Monday.

I was in a meeting room having finished my final virtual meeting of the day, when a friend called me on Messenger. I was hoping he’d ring - I messaged him over the weekend asking if he was still in London because I might be going there soon. We hadn’t spoken in over a year.

“Wow, you sound…exactly the same” he said as soon as we started talking. But as he soon found out – that was the only thing about my life that was the same. Everything else had changed. Job, relationship, and live overall - everything was unrecognisable.

His life was completely different too. He’s a digital nomad now – a long way away from investment banks, expensive client dinners, and crisp suits.

We talked for an hour like no time had passed while I packed up and made my way to the train station – and I only ended the call cause my train was about to go through a tunnel – but I messaged him when I was back in the light;

“It’s funny how we sound the same but we’re completely different haha”

He reacted with a laughing emoji.

All it took was a YEAR.

We both changed jobs, goals, homes, and had huge movements in our lives – the time passed quickly.

So it’s true, then. You can change your entire life in a year. Your financial situation, your relationship ‘situation’, and even your fitness. You’ll still sound the same even when you’re not. And you only realise that when you speak to someone you haven’t spoken to in a while.

It’s great to look at how far you’ve come. I posted about a few more achievements on my LinkedIn recently, not to boast - but to boost my own energy.

You can distort your lens…if you want. To give yourself energy, which will allow you to keep going.

"The reasonable man adapts himself to the world; the unreasonable one persists in trying to adapt the world to himself. Therefore, all progress depends on the unreasonable man." – George Bernard Shaw.

I realised we’re both unreasonable men. And maybe you are too.

And so, don’t be discouraged by your lack of progress

As long as you’re doing something to take you forward everyday – you’re covering distance. You’re covering the miles between your future self and your present self, all you have to do is not go down the roads that lead you the wrong way. Take breaks to refuel, grab a coffee (like the Japanese cold boss coffees that are perfect in this hot weather), and keep going.

Now, I’ve got a question for you:

Look at the date today.

Look through your phone to see what happened on this day last year.

Maybe you have photos. Maybe you have messages or emails or Whatsapp chats. Take a few minutes to see what the conversations were about – because I guarantee if you’re reading this – you’re not the same person you were last year.

Maybe you’re unrecognisable too.

So the only question is – how many miles do you want to cover this year?

Harry

P.S. Thanks for reading. This newsletter is growing thanks to you. Consider forwarding it to a friend if you found it valuable. It’ll take you like, 18 seconds.
